Topicort Pregnancy Category

Animal studies have shown that when steroids like
Topicort® (desoximetasone) are used during pregnancy, there is an increased risk of birth defects, decreased survival, and other potentially serious problems. Due to these possible risks, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified Topicort as a pregnancy Category C medicine. This means that this medicine may not be safe for use in pregnant women.

Although the risks are probably lower for topical steroids that are applied to the skin (like Topicort), this medicine should only be used by pregnant women if absolutely necessary, and at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.
