Topicort Ointment

If your healthcare provider recommends treating your skin condition with Topicort® (desoximetasone) ointment, gel, spray, or cream, you may be wondering what this medicine is and how it works.

This prescription medication is approved for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions, such as:

Topicort is a type of steroid; it works by reducing inflammation and suppressing an overactive immune system. The medicine is applied to the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Topicort ointment is greasier and messier to apply than the cream or gel versions; however, the gel form may cause more skin irritation than the other products. A spray is also available, but it is so strong that it is usually used only for plaque psoriasis, not for less severe skin conditions.
