Temovate Dosage

If your healthcare provider prescribes Temovate, the dosage will depend on the type of the skin condition being treated and the particular product used. Several forms of this medicine are available, and it is important to follow the dosing guidelines carefully. Using too much Temovate for too long can cause serious side effects.

An Introduction to Dosing With Temovate

The dose of Temovate® (clobetasol propionate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on the condition being treated and the particular product used (topical solution, gel, cream, emollient cream, or ointment). As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Temovate Dosage for Skin Conditions

The standard dose for Temovate products is a thin layer applied twice daily. The gel, cream, emollient cream, and ointment products are typically used on the body, while the topical solution is generally used on the scalp. None of the products should be applied to the face, groin, or underarms.

In most cases, Temovate should be used for no more than two weeks at a time. However, for some cases of plaque psoriasis, the emollient cream can be used for an additional two weeks (four weeks total), when used sparingly on the areas that have not adequately improved.

For any use, do not apply more than 50 mL per week (for the topical solution) or 50 grams per week (for the other products). Using too much Temovate, or using it too long, increases the risk for serious problems (see Temovate Side Effects).
