Tazorac Dosage

Tazorac is usually applied in a thin layer to the affected areas once a day in the evening. If you develop extreme skin irritation, your healthcare provider may recommend spacing your doses farther apart, such as every other day. When applying your dosage of Tazorac, be sure to keep the medicine away from your eyes and wash your hands afterwards (unless you're treating your hands).

An Introduction to Your Dose of Tazorac

There is only one standard dosage for Tazorac® (tazarotene), regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust this amount unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Tazorac Dosage for Acne or Psoriasis

Both Tazorac cream and Tazorac gel are applied to the affected areas once daily in the evening. Although some skin irritation, redness, and burning are to be expected, your healthcare provider may recommend that you use the medication less frequently (such as every other day) if extreme irritation occurs.

Tazorac 0.05% gel and cream are approved only for treating psoriasis. The higher-strength gel and cream (0.1%) are approved to treat psoriasis and acne. For people with psoriasis, it is usually best to start with the lower strength first.

Because Tazorac will make you more sensitive to the sun, your healthcare provider will probably recommend that you use a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 or higher every morning. Your healthcare provider can recommend a sunscreen that will not irritate your skin or worsen your acne.

Because this medication can cause birth defects, women of childbearing potential should have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment and should start Tazorac during a normal menstrual period. Adequate birth control must be used (see Tazorac and Pregnancy for more information).
