Taclonex Uses

How Does This Medication Work?

Taclonex contains two different active ingredients that work in different ways.

Calcipotriene is a synthetic form of vitamin D. It is not entirely clear how this ingredient works to treat psoriasis.

Betamethasone is part of a group of medications known as glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are a type of corticosteroid, or "steroid" for short. Although glucocorticoids have numerous effects in the body, they are used mostly for their anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing properties. Betamethasone works for psoriasis by decreasing inflammation and/or suppressing an overactive immune system.

Can Children Use It?

Taclonex is not approved for use in individuals under the age of 18, as it has not been adequately studied in this age group. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Taclonex in children. Although the drug might sometimes be recommended "off-label" for teens, it is strongly recommended that children under the age of 12 not use this product, due to the increased risk of serious side effects.

Off-Label Uses of Taclonex

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than plaque psoriasis. For example, using Taclonex for other types of psoriasis would be considered an off-label use.
