Sorilux and Breastfeeding

It is not known if Sorilux passes through breast milk or how it might affect a nursing infant. Although some of the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream, only a small amount would likely reach the breast milk. However, before using Sorilux while breastfeeding, talk to your healthcare provider about the potential risks.

Is Sorilux Safe While Breastfeeding?

At this time, it is unknown if Sorilux® (calcipotriene foam) passes through breast milk. Therefore if you are breastfeeding a child, you should talk with your healthcare provider about using Sorilux.

More Information on Breastfeeding and Sorilux

No research has been done to see if calcipotriene, the active ingredient in Sorilux, passes through breast milk in humans. Because only a small percentage of the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream, where it must first pass before it can reach breast milk, it is predicted that using Sorilux while breastfeeding poses a low risk to the child.

However, caution should be taken to avoid skin-to-skin contact where the medication was applied, and the medication should not be applied to the breast.

Talking With Your Healthcare Provider

You should discuss breastfeeding and Sorilux with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
