Soriatane Dosage

Your healthcare provider will recommend a dosage of Soriatane based on how well you respond to the medication. The recommended starting dosage is 25 mg to 50 mg once daily, taken with the main meal of the day. If you develop bothersome side effects or if the medication is not working well enough, your healthcare provider may adjust the dosage.

Soriatane Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Soriatane® (acitretin) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on how you react to the medication. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Soriatane Dosing for Psoriasis

The recommended starting dosage for Soriatane is 25 mg to 50 mg once daily. If you start with the lower dose, your healthcare provider may later decide to increase your dosage if the medication is not working well enough. If you are taking the higher amount, your healthcare provider may decide to decrease it if side effects become intolerable or dangerous.

General Dosing Information

Some considerations for people taking Soriatane include the following:
  • Soriatane comes in capsule form. It is usually taken by mouth once daily with the main meal of the day.
  • It is important to take the medication with food, as food improves the absorption of this medication.
  • Women must completely avoid drinking all alcohol (even small amounts of alcohol in cough syrups) while taking Soriatane and for two months after stopping the medication. Alcohol changes the way the body metabolizes and stores this medication, causing Soriatane to stay in the body for an extremely long time (for more than three years). This restriction is mostly for women, due to the risk of birth defects with Soriatane.
  • There are strict rules for taking Soriatane. Women of childbearing potential must use two effective forms of birth control and must have frequent pregnancy tests. Women who take Soriatane must not get pregnant for three years after stopping the medication.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dose or Soriatane dosing in general, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
