Studies on breastfeeding and Soriatane (acitretin) have shown that the medication passes through breast milk. However, it is unclear if this medication causes problems in a nursing infant. Although the manufacturer of Soriatane has advised that women avoid this medication while nursing, the American Academy of Pediatrics has said that the drug is compatible with breastfeeding.

Talking With Your Healthcare Provider

If you are interested in taking Soriatane while breastfeeding, make sure to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider (and perhaps your child's healthcare provider). Your healthcare provider will take into account the strength of your desire to breastfeed, the severity of your psoriasis, and the availability of other treatment options before making a recommendation for your particular situation.
