Psoriasis is a skin disorder that most often affects adults. People with this condition have patches of red, scaly skin that may itch or feel sore. Psoriasis occurs when T cells (which protect the body against infection and disease) become so active that they set off other immune responses, causing swelling and fast turnover of skin cells. Light therapies and various medications are available to improve the skin's appearance, but there is currently no cure for the disease.
