Adults who have mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis may benefit from Vectical. This prescription medicine comes in the form of an ointment that contains an active form of vitamin D. In some cases, a healthcare provider may recommend "off-label," or unapproved, uses for Vectical. Some of these off-label uses may include treating wrinkles, vitiligo, and other forms of psoriasis.
What Is Vectical Used For?Vectical® (calcitriol ointment) is a prescription medication licensed to treat mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis in adults. It is not meant for use on the eyes, lips, or face.
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease. It is thought that psoriasis is caused by an overactive immune system (see Psoriasis Causes for more information). There are several different types of psoriasis. The symptoms of psoriasis may vary, depending on the type. Plaque psoriasis is characterized by thickened, swollen, and red skin, often covered with silver scales.
Psoriasis treatment may include:
- Medicines applied to the skin (topical psoriasis treatment)
- Light treatments (phototherapy)
- Psoriasis medication, whether by mouth or injection, which treats the whole immune system (called systemic therapy).
Vectical is a topical psoriasis medication.
