Psoriasis Home > Vectical Drug Interactions

If you are taking calcium, lithium, or vitamin D, make sure to let your healthcare provider know before starting treatment with Vectical. Combining these drugs can lead to negative interactions. Vectical can increase the levels of calcium in the blood, and combining the medicine with certain supplements or medications can make this problem worse.

An Overview of Interactions With Vectical

Even though Vectical® (calcitriol ointment) is applied to the skin, some of the medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream and can potentially react with several other medications. Some of these products that may lead to drug interactions with Vectical include:
  • Vitamin D.

Vectical Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Vectical is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Vectical contains a form of vitamin D. Using too much Vectical may cause high levels of calcium in the blood (known as hypercalcemia). Taking calcium could make this problem worse.
However, for people using Vectical appropriately, a normal dosage of a calcium supplement is unlikely to cause problems.
