If you have plaque psoriasis, you may benefit from Taclonex, a prescription medication that comes in the form of an ointment or a suspension (liquid). This drug contains two active ingredients, one of which is a steroid. Although most people are able to use this medicine without any problems, side effects are possible and include itching, a burning sensation, and headache.
What Is Taclonex?
Taclonex® (calcipotriene/betamethasone dipropionate) is a prescription medication approved for treating plaquepsoriasis. It comes in the form of an ointment and a suspension (liquid). The suspension form is usually used on the scalp or body, while the ointment is usually used on the body.
Taclonex contains two different active ingredients that work in different ways.
Calcipotriene is a synthetic form of vitamin D. It is not entirely clear how this ingredient works to treat psoriasis.
Betamethasone is part of a group of medications known as glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are a type of corticosteroid, or "steroid" for short. Although glucocorticoids have numerous effects in the body, they are used mostly for their anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing properties. Betamethasone works for psoriasis by decreasing inflammation and/or suppressing an overactive immune system.
