Psoriasis Home > Cordran Tape Side Effects

Because Cordran Tape is an older medication, only vague information is available about its possible side effects. In general, problems may include things like skin reactions, such as irritation, itching, or folliculitis. Although reactions such as these are usually mild, contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop more serious problems, such as glaucoma, severe fluid retention, or high blood pressure.

An Introduction to Cordran Tape Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Cordran® Tape (flurandrenolide tape). However, not everyone who uses the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Cordran Tape. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects of Cordran Tape

For many medications, especially newly approved medications, the prescribing information carefully explains the exact percentage of side effects that were seen in clinical trials. However, the prescribing information for almost all older medications, including Cordran Tape, provides only relatively vague side effect information.
Therefore, it can be difficult to know exactly how frequently side effects occur. The side effects listed in the prescribing information for Cordran Tape are actually just side effects of steroids in general, not necessarily for Cordran Tape specifically.
Common side effects of all topical steroids include but are not limited to:
  • Drying
  • Inflammation or infection of skin follicles (folliculitis)
  • Increased sweating
  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Irritation
  • Allergic contact dermatitis (allergic skin reactions)
  • Soft, whitened skin (much like skin that is constantly wet)
  • Weakening and thinning of the skin
  • Acne
  • Decreased skin pigmentation
  • Rash around the mouth
  • Stretch marks
  • Heat rash.
Given the nature of the medication, drying is probably not common with Cordran Tape, since the tape serves as a barrier to hold moisture in the skin.
