Halobetasol Ointment

By decreasing inflammation and suppressing the immune system, halobetasol propionate (Ultravate®) ointment and cream can help treat skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. This prescription medication is applied in a thin layer on the affected areas of the skin once or twice daily.

Both the cream and ointment forms of halobetasol come in one strength (0.05%). Your dose will be based on the severity of the skin condition being treated. It is not usually recommended to use this medicine for longer than two weeks, as it may lead to serious problems.

Skin burning, stinging, and itching are some of the possible side effects of this medicine. Halobetasol may not be suitable for people who are taking certain medications or who have certain allergies. Also, it is important to tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before starting treatment with this ointment.
