Generic Cordran Tape
There are no generic versions of Cordran Tape (flurandrenolide tape) available at this time. It is unclear why no generic versions are available; there are no unexpired patents or exclusivity rights preventing this. It's important to note that flurandrenolide is the "generic name" for this product; it's not a "generic version."
Cordran® Tape (flurandrenolide tape) is a prescription skin medication used to treat itching and inflammation due to various skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis. It is applied to the skin twice a day. This product is unique in that it is the only steroid medication that comes in the form of a tape.
Cordran Tape is made by 3M Company for Aqua Pharmaceuticals, LLC. At this time, Cordran Tape is not available in generic form.
This is a difficult (if not impossible) question to answer. There are no unexpired patents or exclusivity rights for Cordran Tape. This means that a generic version could become available at any time, as soon as a manufacturer decides to make it and to apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to do so.
It is unclear why no manufacturers have chosen to make generic Cordran Tape. Perhaps there is not a large enough market for this particular steroid. There are many, many different steroid products on the market today, and some have become more popular than others.
No -- flurandrenolide is the active ingredient in Cordran Tape (as well as in Cordran Lotion and Cordran SP Cream), but is not a generic version of it. What can be confusing is that, oftentimes, the active ingredient of any drug is referred to as the "generic name."
The generic name is different from a generic version of a medicine. In order for there to be a generic version, the original medicine must have gone off-patent and another company besides the original manufacturer must make the product.
