Cordran Tape and Breastfeeding
If you are breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider before using Cordran Tape (flurandrenolide tape). It is unknown if this drug passes through breast milk. However, because it is applied to the skin, it is not expected that large amounts would be passed to a nursing baby. Cordran Tape is approved only for adults.
Is Cordran Tape Safe for Breastfeeding Women?Cordran® Tape (flurandrenolide tape) is a skin medication used to treat a variety of different conditions in adults. It is a steroid and is available by prescription only. Currently, it is unknown if flurandrenolide (the active ingredient in Cordran Tape) passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding a child, you should talk with your healthcare provider before using this product.
More Information on Breastfeeding and Using Cordran TapeNo research has been done to see if flurandrenolide passes through breast milk. However, other similar steroids are known to pass through. Fortunately, even when steroids are taken by mouth or by injection, only very small amounts pass through breast milk. This implies that applying a steroid to the skin would probably result in very tiny amounts (if any) passing through breast milk, although this is not known for sure.
A Cautionary Note for MothersSince Cordran Tape usually works great for quickly relieving skin inflammation, some mothers wonder if they could use it on a stubborn diaper rash. Cordran Tape is not approved for treating diaper rash and is specifically not recommended for use in the diaper area.
Young children are more likely to absorb a dangerously high amount of the medication, especially when applied to broken skin (like a diaper rash). Cordran Tape is a highly potent steroid, generally too potent for young children.
In addition, treat Cordran Tape as you would any other medication. Keep it well out of the reach of children and pets.
